The greatest accomplishment in 2016 was the consolidation that was achieved during the days of the April war—when Azerbaijan had unleashed a large-scale military aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).
National Assembly Vice President and ruling Republican Party of Armenia Spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“It was an unprecedented consolidation between the [Armenian] authorities, the opposition, and the society,” noted Sharmazanov. “We were able to become one body, be one trench—the authorities and the opposition, which was an important lesson for our adversary [i.e. Azerbaijan]. (…). Interest of the Motherland is above everything else.”
The new Electoral Code, which was adopted as a result of joint work by the opposition and the authorities of Armenia, also was among the aforementioned accomplishments which the parliament deputy speaker noted.
As per Eduard Sharmazanov, the year that passed, however, was also a year of challenges. But he left to the judgment of the voters as to how the incumbent Armenian authorities have confronted these challenges.
He also reflected on the constantly growing number of political forces and unions in Armenia.
“A trend has started in Armenia, as whoever is leaving a post is attempting to be a new restart in the opposition arena,” stressed Sharmazanov. “[But] everything should be in its own time.”
