Major investments in Amulsar gold mine to boost job creation – PM Karapetyan visits Vayots Dzor

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan was briefed on the Amulsar gold mine development project in the course of a recent visit to the Vayots Dzor region, reports the Government’s press service.
Local government officials attending a working meeting in the resort town of Jermuk unveiled plans to attract investments worth AMD 370 million (approx US $780,000) to exploit the mine and to create 1,300 new jobs. Currently, the mine has 730 employees, of whom 350 are residents of the southern region.
Tourism appears to be among the most dynamically developing sectors in Vayots Dzor, which attracted 20,400 foreign visitors in the past six months (against the 42,000 in 2016). The local authorities now intend to invest an equivalent of US$10 million in Jermuk to enhance the tourism infrastructures in the popular resort.
