Restoring military balance only way to settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict – Nagorno-Karabakh MP

In an interview with Tert.am, Hayk Khanumyan, Chairman of the National Revival party and member of the National Assembly of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) commented on the latest meetings concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He does not see any positive changes and points out a need to restore military balance and organize large-scale resettlement. In short, the state must be an efficient, with prospects for ensuring rapid economic growth.
Mr Khanumyan, what response did the Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting in Moscow and the subsequent statements evoke in Nagorno-Karabakh?
I cannot say anything about a response as Artsakh’s public and political life is not active in terms of public comments. By personal impression is that the negotiations have not seen any progress and we are entering the “negotiations for negotiations’ sake” format without any progress.

In your opinion, what is a solution, with external pressure over Nagorno-Karabakh being obvious?

The problem has no political solution, and each of the conflicting parties is seeking a maximalist solution. This entails the impossibility of resolving the conflict by means of mutual concessions. Therefore, we should re-enforce our military might. First of all, it is restoring military balance and organizing large-scale resettlement. In short, the state must be an efficient, with prospects for ensuring rapid economic growth.
