Ingenuity of Anya Pogharian, inventor of a dialysis machine

Winner of Science Expo 2014

Anya Pogharian, a young student presently studying at Marianopolis College, while doing volunteer work at Montreal General Hospital had the brilliant idea and the strong determination to develop a dialysis machine, one that would be readily accessible to institutions at a very low cost compared to the presently used dialysis machines.

The 17 year old brilliant student is the inventor of other devices in education and health and has earned  Super Expo-sciences prizes.

The dialysis machines for kidney deficiency, presently used in our hospitals cost $30,000 compared to $ 500 for the one that Anya has developed. The ingenuity of the young inventor is that all parts used for this new machine are readily available at a very low cost.

Although this new machine simulates the work of the present one, it still has to go through an extensive validation process before it is approved by authorities.

This new machine, in addition to being useful in our hospitals, will be welcomed in developing countries where access to kidney deficiency treatment is limited due to high costs.
