THE MERITS AND JUSTIFICATIONS FOR DEVELOPING A WEAPONS INDUSTRY IN ARMENIA

An international exhibition featuring the latest in defense technology and armaments opened on March 20, 2018 in Armenia.

Known as Arm-Hi Tec-2018 International Exhibition of Armaments and Defense Technology, the event lasted for three days and it was attended by the former President of Armenia Serge Sarkisian and its current Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan. Among the participants were delegations from Russia, India, Germany, France, China and 34 other foreign countries.

Certainly, the plan to develop a modern defense weapons industry in Armenia, is a very significant attempt to strengthen Armenia’s defense capabilities in a critical period when her deadly, enemy neighbors Azerbaijan and Turkey are freely talking and planning to annihilate the people of both Armenia and Nogorno-Garapakh, and put an end to their existence.

Moreover, a weapons industry specialized in the production of modern, quality, lightweight defensive weapons, may provide steady employment to several hundreds qualified engineers and technicians. Furthermore, in time, the production and sale of defense weapons would certainly provide a much needed source of income for Armenia which is suffering from unemployment and is poor in natural resources.

After all, in the last fifteen years, all the wealthy nations are competing with each other in the wholesale production and sale of offensive and defensive weapons to Azerbaijan, knowing well the deadly objectives of President Aliyev for amassing a colossal weapons arsenal.

For all the above outlined reasons, Armenia is justified to develop a quality self-defense weapons industry.
