On April 22, there was a superb Centennial concert at Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall with Toronto Symphony, under the baton of Peter Oundjian with several of our STAR performers :
Isabel Bayrakdarian, Soprano; Sergey Khachatryan, Violin; Serouj Kradjian, Piano; Levon Ichkhanian, Tar;
Hampic Djabourian, Duduk; Shavarsh Kahmaryan, Kamanchah.
Works of Gomidas, Khachaturian and Mychael Danna (Oscar winning composer who wrote the score of the movie Ararat) were featured. The whole classical program was dedicated to the music of Armenia and the Centennial.
Maestro Oundjian, in his opening remarks, stated that the concept of this whole program was initiated by Atom Egoyan.
Isabel, before her performance, talked about the Genocide and how the Armenians have bounced-back and the composer Mychael Danna explained how he had immersed himself into Armenian music before writing the score for the movie Ararat.
