With current development rates, Yerevan Zoo can not only become the region’s best zoo, but also one of the world’s leading zoos, renowned zoo architect and Zoo Director Emeritus David Hancocks told reporters on Monday.
Mr Hancock and Mr Thijs de Zeeuw, landscape architect at the Royal Zoo in Amsterdam, arrived in Yerevan at the invitation of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), under the ‘FPWC and VivaCell-MTS for Yerevan Zoo’ project.
Speaking of the reforms at Yerevan Zoo, Mr Thijs de Zeeuw singled out its location, which enables creating the most favorable conditions for the animals.
Director of Yerevan Zoo Ruben Khachatryan expressed his gratitude to Yerevan Municipality for huge investments, which will enable Yerevan Zoo to show its entirely new image to the public on June 1.
He said that new enclosures have been constructed for tigers, wolves, bears, meerkats and otters.
Yerevan Zoo also plans a flexible ticket price policy.
