Armenian member of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Democratic Party of Nations (HDP) Garo Palian has announced that the political party’s pre-election platform includes a point that refers to confronting genocides.
According to ermenihaber.am, in an interview posted on pressturk website, Palian emphasized that the expression ‘Armenian Genocide’ wasn’t included in the pre-election platform merely because of the existence of the Assyrian genocide and the genocide of the Greeks of Pontos. “In our platform, we mention that corresponding committees need to be established in order to confront all genocides and that the government needs to apologize,” Palian added.
As far as recognition of the Armenian Genocide is concerned, the Armenian Deputy said the congress of the HDP has made a decision on that and that the issue is included in the party’s statute.
Palian reminded that co-chair of the HDP Sellahatin Demirtas has expressed his view on the Armenian Genocide several times. “My political party knows that it doesn’t win votes by saying ‘Armenian Genocide’. Although confronting it lies at the core of our principles, we know that we won’t be able to condemn the existing malicious mindset without confrontation,” Palian said, adding that the catastrophe that the Armenian people experienced is referred to as genocide.
