Every year on the first of July, it has become a tradition to celebrate Canada’s birthday in Tekeyan’s backyard with brunch. This event took place on Sunday, July 2 and was the seventh event of its kind organized by the ADL and Tekeyan committees
ADL’s chairman Ara Balian addressed the crowd gathered under the Canadian, Quebec and Armenian flags. He welcomed the present audience as well as the many political figures who were in attendance. Among the guests whose presence we enjoyed were (Mr. Andre Morin Député de L’Acadie Parti Libéral du Québec, Mrs. Marwah Rizqy Députée de St-Laurent parti Libéral du Québe), Representing Mrs. Sona Lakhoyan Olivier Députée de Chomedey Parti libéral du Québec, Mrs. Hilda Tursucuyan, The Mayor of St Laurent borough Mr. Alan DeSousa, St-Laurent City council members Mrs. Vana Nazarian and Mrs.Annie Gagnier and City councillor of Parc Extension Mrs. Mary Deros). All the aforementioned politicians took the stage and congratulated Canada’s birthday.
Mrs. Aida Karibian was invited to the podium and after a brief introduction to the Canadian anthem she emotionally sang it with everyone.
The well decorated Foul and Falafel brunch table was open for us to enjoy their delicacies.
The event also had a musical part. We find Nejdeh Bodrumian with its Armenian and international repertoire creating a pleasant environment. Although there was no dance floor, many started dancing around the singer and on the grass between the tables.
Veteran ADL and Tekeyan member, Avedis Djihanian’s birthday is also remembered during this celebration.
This fun event ended around 7pm.
We look forward to repeating this next year.
Bravo to all the loyal organizers.
