Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed to the need for effective steps to provide the population of Nagorno-Karabakh with food, medicine, essentials, as well as ensuring uninterrupted electricity and gas supply. The Russian diplomat stated this following the results of trilateral talks with the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov in Moscow.
“This is in the interests of ordinary people, Armenians, residents of the region. We outlined to our interlocutors the assessments of the Russian side, taking into account the reports made by Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Lavrov said.
According to him, Russia, as a key mediator in the peace process, is interested in a speedy resolution of the crisis in full accordance with the tripartite statements that the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia adopted in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The issues of ensuring unhindered movement, unblocking transport and economic communications throughout the region were also raised. Particular attention was paid to the issues of delimitation and of the speedy conclusion of a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan.
Lavrov also noted that Moscow understands the interest of both the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides to use other mediators, in addition to the Russian Federation.
