Russia presidential spox comments on possible termination of Armenia membership in EAEU

The integration of countries in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) ensures progressive development of the participating countries. Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, stated this as he commented on the possible termination of Armenia’s membership in the EAEU, reported RIA Novosti.

A reporter asked Peskov whether the Kremlin sees any risks related to the possible termination of Armenia’s membership in the EAEU. Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister of Armenia had stated that the Collective Security Treaty was allegedly not implemented with respect to Armenia, and therefore the latter was freezing its participation in the CSTO. Later, the secretariat of this organization told RIA Novosti that it had not received a statement from Armenia about its termination of membership in the CSTO. Russia assumes that Armenia remains a full CSTO member, the Russian foreign ministry had told RIA Novosti.

“In response, I can only state one thing that in general, the integration process is quite successful, it ensures progressive development for the participating countries, and the participating countries know it. And certainly in the rate of GDP growth of countries every year, this part of the integration process is quite noticeable,” Peskov told reporters.

He added that it is in the interests of all participating countries to continue developing the EAEU.
