Bulgarian Armenian Raya Nazaryan, an MP of the GERB-SDS coalition, has been elected the new President of the 50th National Assembly (parliament) of Bulgaria.
Her respective candidacy was supported by 131 lawmakers, 66 voted against, and 39 abstained.
Nazaryan’s main rival, Peter Petrov, a representative of the Revival party, received 54 votes in favor.
Nazaryan has practiced law for more than 12 years and has extensive experience in commercial, civil, and administrative litigation in Bulgarian courts.
Born on September 16, 1985 in Varna city, Raya Nazaryan is a specialist in mediation and extrajudicial resolution of legal disputes, a member of the Sofia Bar Association, and a partner and co-founder of a law firm.
Nazaryan entered politics in 2022.
