To mark the Armenian Genocide centennial, a khachkar was unveiled and consecrated in Martigues, France on December 5, 2015.
The ceremony was organized by Martigues City Hall and the local Armenian community with the support of Armenia’s Consulate General.
Martigues Mayor, MP Gaby Charroux, Armenia’s Consul to Marseilles Samvel Lalayan, parliamentarians, deputy mayors, representatives of a number of Armenian and French organizations and community members attended the event.
Addressing the attendees, Charroux noted that the consecration of the khachkar aims to honor the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims and raise awareness of the atrocities perpetrated against Armenians in 1915.
Lalayan, in turn, thanked Martigues for installing the khachkar, hailing the Armenian-French relations and the efficient collaboration between Martigues local authorities and the Armenian community.
