Elderly Armenian woman dies in Azerbaijan-occupied Karabakh’s capital Stepanakert

An elderly Armenian woman, one of the few Armenians who remained in Nagorno-Karabakh after its current occupation by Azerbaijan, has died in capital Stepanakert.

Vera Aghasyan (born in 1954) died on the morning of October 20, the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan informed, Oxu.Az reports.

According to the preliminary results of the forensic medical examination, the woman died of acute pulmonary heart failure due to pulmonary artery thrombosis.

After the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan in September 2023, some elderly and sick Armenians remained in Stepanakert because they could not survive the long forcible displacement to Armenia, and therefore preferred to stay in the Nagorno-Karabakh capital.
