The year 2015 is the centennial of the tragic events in the Ottoman Empire.
Russian State Duma Deputy Chairman Nikolai Levichev, who is also co-author of the Duma bill on criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial, told the aforesaid to Haqqin.az news agency of Azerbaijan.
“Events marking the 100th anniversary of this tragedy were held throughout the year,” Levichev noted. “[And] the initiative on criminalizing the denial of the century-old tragedy became the logical end of 2015.
“Upon the State Duma decision back in 1995, Russia has recognized the fact of the Armenian Genocide.
“As for the Russian citizen Azerbaijanis, they shall live under the laws of the Russian Federation.
“[And] as for the Azerbaijani citizens who come to Russia for work or study, they are obligated to respect the laws of their country of residence. (…) They, too, shall recognize the Armenian Genocide.”
