Another Armenian name appears in the professional sports horizon, Margarita Gasparyan, 21 years old that participated in the Australian open Tennis Tournament and advanced to Round 4 to face the number one seed Serena Williams.
In round 1, she played against Sara Errani from Italy wining 1-6, 7-5 and 6-1. Round 2 faced Kurumi Nara from Japan and advanced to Round 3 after wining in two sets. Winning against Yulia Putintseva from Kazakistan 6-3 and 6-4, Margarita had to face Serena in the Rod Laver Arena, that was a difficult task for her and she lost 6-2 and 6-1 in a game that lasted less than an hour.
Margarita was born in Moscow, Russia on September 1st 1994. She is a right handed player and until the Australian Open had won 13 matches and lost 11. Ranked 58 in women singles, she also plays doubles and is ranked 71st.
Talking about her last game against Serena, she says that she had big emotions to play against her, adding that her opponent is a very good, unbelievable tennis player and serves, moves very well and hits the ball very aggressively. Margarita adds that, although she tried to be more aggressive and tried to be her best, she made errors and did not have a chance against her opponent.
