The National Statistical Service (NSS) of Armenia publicized the main socioeconomic indicators that were recorded in the country in the first two months of the current year, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.
“NSS again recorded an impressive growth in virtually all domains.
“Especially, economic activity index grew by 4.7 percent, as compared to the same period last year. The growth, which NSS recorded in industry, is virtually double digit—9.9 percent. The growth in the services sector is approximately the same amount—9.8 percent. By the way, such a growth in the services sector was received on the account of the growth recorded in the ‘culture, entertainment and recreation’ subsector.
“During one of his press conferences, head of the International Monetary Fund [(IMF)] mission to Armenia, Mark Horton, announced that according to their studies, the growth in the noted subsector [in Armenia] is due to the growth in attendance to the casinos [in the country],” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
