Argentina Senate leader: I am proud to be co-author of Armenian Genocide law

National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who also heads the NA Armenia-Argentina Parliamentary Friendship Group and is on a working visit to Argentina, on Tuesday met with Federico Pinedo, President of the Argentine Senate, in Buenos Aires.

The NA deputy speaker highlighted the establishment of Armenia’s tight connections with Latin American countries, particularly with Argentina, especially stressing the respective parliamentary role and significance. Eduard Sharmazanov noted that Armenia considers Argentina a friendship country, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The interlocutors expressed the hoped that this visit will serve as an extra impetus for the further intensification and advancement of bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Armenian Parliament vice president noted that cooperation between the two countries within international organizations is quite productive, and there is reciprocal understanding on matters of mutual concern as well as mutual support in supporting each other’s candidates at international instances.

Sharmazanov highly assessed the fact that in 2006, the Senate of Argentina adopted and condemned Armenian Genocide, by law.

Pinedo, for his part, stated that he is proud to be the co-author of the law on Armenian Genocide.

Touching upon regional matters, the NA deputy speaker condemned Turkey’s unlawful blockade on Armenia, Azerbaijan’s belligerent policy against Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).

The parties also highly appreciated the Armenian community’s special contribution to the shaping and strengthening of Armenian-Argentinean ties.
