Turkey’s accession to the EU is expected neither this year nor even in the next decade. Ankara should show that it accepts the European values and rules, EU Commissioner Günther Oettinger said.
In an interview with Bild magazine, the officer also expressed serious concern over the possible collapse of the EU due to the emergence of a growing number of unstable and populist governments. With this regard, the member-states “must do their best to preserve the construction of the community,” RG reports.
The Commissioner confessed there are issues with the Eastern European states in connection with the migrant crisis. Despite this, he considers it justified to keep the doors open for the Western Balkans countries. But, according to him, there must be rigorous conditions for their future accession to the EU.
