Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, announced that 25 percent of the shares of Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation could be sold on the stock exchange. The danger here is that the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has already voiced about its plan to completely purchase the natural gas pipeline reaching Armenia, reported Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia.
“That is, the gas pipeline, which is of strategic, vital importance for our country, might soon become a property of the Azerbaijanis, who, due to a fallen mood, could close the gas valve from time to time, and we [Armenia] will be deprived of gas supply.
“Zhoghovurd daily managed to talk on this matter with MP of the Parliament of Georgia, David Chichinadze. The latter explained that the sales process itself has not started.
‘“The Azerbaijani company does not have any gas, transport corridor at us [i.e. in Georgia], and therefore I believe that there is little such likelihood,’ the Georgian MP gave hope,” wrote Zhoghovurd.
