Ohanyan: Russia will fulfill its treaty obligations in case of aggression against Armenia

Russia will fulfill its treaty obligations if aggression is initiated against Armenia, Armenian Defense Minster Seyran Ohanyan said the aforementioned at the press-conference on Tuesday.

In his words, in the framework of the $200 mln loan allocated by Russia, almost all the agreements with the Russian side have already been signed, the inter-political processes have been completed and the arms supply has already started.

“The import of arms to Armenia is currently being carried out, also in the framework of the achieved agreements. We are also cooperating with the representatives of the areas of modern technologies. I think the agreements signed in the framework of the cooperation with our strategic partner have been thoroughly studied and analyzed.  During this period quite serious work has been carried out,” Seyran Ohanyan said.

The military and political leadership of Armenia could not but achieve full consideration of the country’s interests in those agreements, the Minister said.

“I think considering all this, our strategic partner will fulfill its treaty obligations if aggression is initiated against Armenia,” Ohanyan stressed.

The military actions during the four-day war took place in the territory of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), he noted. “And exactly upon the initiative of the Russian Federation everything was done to halt those military actions. The current intensification of the negotiation process is the continuation of this, aiming to settle the Karabakh issue by peaceful political means,” Ohanhyan added.
