Russia may stop supplying weapons to Azerbaijan due to Karabakh conflict

The Federation Council reminded that Russia provided serious support to forming the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, including through supplying modern equipment.

“But the way it uses this equipment today is quite unacceptable to us, and we have the right to speak about this, demand and put certain pressure. Of course, Russia can stop selling weapons to Azerbaijan if the escalation and the armed conflict aren’t stopped. And in this case, what is happening on the border with the use of Azerbaijani armed forces is of an extremely aggressive nature,” the First Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, Frants Klintsevich, said in an interview with “Russia Speaks” radio station.

“In this case heavy armament and multiple launch rocket systems were used. According to the sources, TOS-1 “Solntsepyok” system was used. This is a very modern weapon […] and as a rule it is used when serious offensive operation on the frontline is prepared,” Klintsevich noted.

He also added that the issue on stopping the provision of weapons to Azerbaijan must be raised by Russian President Vladimir Putin, “since this is an aggregation of very complex contractual relationships, many of which are of close nature”.
