Canada is blessed that the Armenians also are a part of the Canadian society.
Speaker of the Senate of Canada, Leo Housakos, stated the abovementioned at his talk in Geneva, Switzerland, with the President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan. The meeting was held along the lines of the 133rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the parties discussed the avenues for the development of interparliamentary cooperation.
Sahakyan stated that Armenia highlights the enhancement of friendship relations with Canada.
He also expressed a conviction that Canada’s sincere attitude toward the Armenian people was manifested also in 2002, when its Senate had passed a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, and when this resolution was reaffirmed in May of this year.
“We also highly appreciate Canada’s balanced and neutral position on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue,” concluded the head of the Armenian parliament.
Housakos, for his part, noted that the two countries are collaborating closely, and assured that this cooperation will further strengthen.
And at his request, Galust Sahakyan reflected on the latest developments regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The parties also spoke about the expected constitutional reforms in Armenia.
At the end of the talk, the speaker of the Canadian Senate accepted the Armenian NA President’s invitation, and informed that he will pay an official visit to Armenia next year.
