The level of Armenian-Iranian economic relations does not correspond to the level of political relations, Armenia’s Ambassador to Iran Artashes Tumanyan said in an interview with Iran’s Donye Egtesad newspaper.
Speaking about economic relations in terms of infrastructure projects, he said there are projects that are being implemented. In particular, two high voltage transmission lines have been constructed, while the third one is under construction. In addition, Armenia-Iran gas pipeline has been built. Armenia’s participation in the transport corridor North-South is being discussed.
“Our goal is that transport corridor Gulf-Iran-Armeniya-Georgia Black Sea could be built on time so that Armenia could be actively involved in the profitable regional projects for both countries,” Ambassador said.
According to him, Iran has a number of opportunities for the transport communications with Europe and Russia. Iran can communicate with Europe through Turkey and the get out to the Mediterranean Sea through the territory of Iraq and Syria and to the Black Sea through Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Armenia would like to see the project of North-South railway connecting Persian Gulf with the border of Armenia. The Ambassador said that an additional 60 km is needed on the territory Iran that will lead to the border with Armenia.
