Armenian parliament committee to debate on Armenia-Azerbaijan border delimitation regulation on October 21

The Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia will debate on the regulation of the commissions on delimitation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan on October 21, on the eve of the regular four-day sessions of the NA.

The respective draft on the agenda of the eighth session of the eighth NA will be reported by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, who is also chairman of the Armenian commission for border delimitation.

At least 54 votes in favor are needed for the Armenian parliament to ratify this regulation.

The aforesaid regulation was signed two months late, and its text was publicized in Armenia only two days later. The Armenian government had explained that this delay in the declassification of its content was related also to the need to synchronize this process with Azerbaijan as much as possible.

According to this document, Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to carry out their border delimitation based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, but this agreement is not final. The regulation states also that after the adoption of the peace agreement, this process may proceed with some other principles in the future.

The regulation has seven articles, and they are mainly technical data and general wording related to the process.

In Azerbaijan, however, the text of this regulation has not yet been made public and has not yet passed any procedure.
