Deputy speaker: Armenia, Azerbaijan close to finalizing draft peace deal

Armenia and Azerbaijan are close to finalizing the draft peace treaty, says Ruben Rubinyan, a deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament and Armenia’s special envoy for normalization with Turkey.

“For our part, we are ready to swiftly finalize the document and sign it,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “If we had managed to agree absolutely on all terms, we would have already signed it.”

Asked about the possibility of signing the peace deal at the UN COP29 climate summit to be held in Baku on November 11-24, Rubinyan said: “If Azerbaijan demonstrates a constructive approach, I believe it’s possible to sign the peace treaty as early as tomorrow.”

Rubinyan also highlighted that Armenia’s position on recognizing the territorial integrity of the two countries and unblocking regional infrastructures remained changed.
