The European Commission has agreed to the proposal of expanding cooperation with Armenia and Belarus, RIA Novosti news agency of Russia reported citing the statement by a senior European representative.
“We [i.e. the European Commission] must be prepared for different situations with partner countries. Two of them, Armenia and Belarus, have decided to become a member in the [Russia-led] Eurasian Economic Union [EEU], and thus, we need to explore and decide how we will deepen our relationship with them.
“Today, the European Commission has approved the framework agreement with Armenia, which [i.e. the agreement] will not be as continuous as the political integration agreement, but it will help strengthen our relations with Armenia, given the fact of its EEU accession,” the senior European representative told reporters.
