Freight volumes up 36.9% in Armenia

Armenia saw a considerable increase in freight volumes last year, according to the latest statistics.

The freight volumes totaled to 28,046,700 tons in Armenia in 2017, showing a 36.9% growth against the same period of the previous year, the National Statistical Service (NSS) of Armenia informed Panorama.am.

According to the NSS figures, the recorded increase was mainly prompted by the rise in motor vehicle freight volumes. In particular, the volume of automobile freight amounted to 23,597,500 tons in 2017, up by 42.2% from 2016.

The rail freight volumes comprised 2,640,000 tons in the reporting period, showing a 1.1% growth against 2016.

According to the NSS statistics, the highway pipeline freight shipping made up 1,786,800 tons (11.3% growth) and the air freight volumes amounted to 22,400 tons (22.4% growth) in 2017.
