Member of European Parliament visits Lachin corridor starting point in Armenia

Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Bert-Jan Ruissen (Netherlands), accompanied by the member of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Arsen Torosyan, on Thursday visited Syunik Province of Armenia, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In Goris city, the deputy governor of the Syunik Hayk Harutyunyan received the guests and presented the security situation in the Province.

Bert-Jan Ruissen, for his part, noted that the Armenian people enjoy the support of the European Parliament, and that he is in Armenia to show their support to Armenia and, particularly, to the residents of Syunik, realizing in how hard situation they are.

The sides highlighted the deployment of the EU monitoring mission in Syunik Province.

Afterwards, the Armenian and the Dutch lawmakers met with a group of young doctors from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), who are unable to return to Artsakh, due to the ongoing illegal Azerbaijani blocking of the Lachin corridor, and to carry out their mission and provide medical services to the people of Artsakh. They presented the humanitarian problems created because of this blockade.

The Dutch MEP, in turn, noted that the way out of the current situation is the targeted pressure on Azerbaijan and imposing specific sanctions. It was recorded that there is need for the urgent solution of the problems to prevent the impending humanitarian disaster in Artsakh.

The aforesaid legislators were also at the starting point of the Lachin corridor, and discussed the matter of introducing various defense mechanisms for reaching lasting peace.
