Minister: Water level of Lake Sevan is recovering ahead of schedule

Water level in Armenia’s Lake Sevan is recovering ahead of schedule.

Armenian Minister of Nature Protection Artsvik Minasyan stated the aforementioned Wednesday, speaking at the parliamentary hearings on draft 2017 State Budget.

In his words, the water level in the lake is currently 1900.51 m, which is 25 cm higher than last year. The program aimed at raising the water level provides for 20 cm rise annually, thus everything is carried out ahead of the schedule.

It is also important to clean the littoral vegetation by the lake. “Together with Sevan National Park, the Ecology Minister wants to expand these programs, since at the current rate the tree and bush removal in the zone of water raising can take another 15 years. It is much cheaper and productive to clean the territory from trees so long as the water hasn’t reached there. The work is cheaper this way and it will also be possible to use the wood,” Minasyan noted.
