Russia MFA spox: Armenia is being turned into another tool, entertainment of Western geopolitics

Armenia deserves to live in peace and not become a small coin in the hands of unholy western politicians. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), said this in a press briefing Wednesday—and commenting on the current rapprochement between Armenia and the European Union (EU).

In particular, Zakharova stated that Ukraine was promised a lot by the West, but the latter “deceived” it.

“It should not suddenly turn out that the same thing happens again. I hope not. I would very much like it not to be like that with Armenia. Armenia has gone through its difficult historical path, which included genocide, defense of its own sovereignty, struggle for its own culture, most complicated territorial disputes, issues, conflicts. That country deserves to live in peace and not become a small coin in the hands of unholy western politicians,” said the official representative of the Russian MFA.

Zakharova added that Russia sincerely wishes peace to Armenia.

“We sincerely want peace, stability, and prosperity for that state—both from the point of view of love for that country and its people, and from the point of view of pragmatism—because the well-being of the region in general also depends on that well-being. But, unfortunately, we see how the West, ‘playing games’ and ‘breaking’ Ukraine, throwing it away like a used rag toy, has started looking for a new victim. It should not suddenly turn out that the new victim will be Armenia, which will be deceived and misled,” said the Russian MFA spox.

Zakharova noted that some Armenian figures consider increased attention from the EU as a panacea.

“Look deep. It is the characteristic feature of the so-called ‘white man’ who, showing the mirror, actually took away the most precious thing that the indigenous people had. Unfortunately, a whole series of politicians in Armenia do not think about [the fact that] they are turning Armenia into another tool, entertainment of Western geopolitics. They are simply ‘grinding,’” said the official representative of the Russian MFA, noting that the EU considers Armenia an “exit point” to the region.
