Turkey to start ‘Zangezur corridor’ opening work in coming months, Turkish official says

In the coming months, the Turkish side will start the work of opening the “Zangezur Corridor”. Abdulkadir Uraloglu, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure  of Turkey, told this to reporters at the Istanbul forum on multimodal transportation and logistics of the Organization of Turkic States, APA reports.

He noted that the Azerbaijani side continues the work in that regard.

“We have overcome a certain path regarding the Zangazur [(Zangazur)] corridor issue, and I believe that Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Armenia will implement it in a short time,” the Turkish official said.

To note, this matter is about a transport road through Armenia’s Syunik Province. Armenian authorities have announced that they are in favor of the opening of regional communications, but under the jurisdiction of the countries through whose territory they pass, and that there can be no question of a “corridor.”

Speaking about the “Zangezur corridor,” Azerbaijan and Turkey, however, prefer not to mention its territorial affiliation at all.
