Russia has called on the parties to Karabakh conflict to stop using force and display political will to reach compromise, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“Unfortunately, the resumption of a political dialogue is hindered by rising tensions and growing casualties, including among civilians,” Maria Zakharova said, adding that further escalation is unacceptable.
The Karabakh issue was discussed during the visit of Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers to Moscow in April and May earlier this year, she assured.
The matter is also a subject of discussion during the current contacts of Sergey Lavrov with his foreign counterparts, RIA Novosti reported.
“We are working in this direction in close contacts with U.S. and France. Russian Foreign Minister has recently had a meeting with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on the margins of UN General Assembly session. They discussed practical issues of the settlement ahead of the co-chairs’ visit to the region later this month,” Zakharova said.
