European Parliament votes to suspend Turkey’s accession talks

The European Parliament voted on Thursday to suspend Turkey’s membership talks in the EU.

The MEPs said talks have to be suspended if Ankara implements constitutional changes envisaged by referendum which expand the powers of President Erdogan, Reuters reported.

Speaking ahead of the vote Turkish EU affairs minister Omer Celik said Ankara rejects any proposals to drop European Union accession talks in favor of cooperation in other areas.
